More Bark than Bite? The Effect of Extreme-Right Parties on Foreign Policy
Although populist, right-wing parties in Europe have advanced proposed sweeping criticisms of the global order and may pose threats to domestic democratic practices, new research suggests that they may be “more bark than bite” in foreign policy. Andrew Moravcsik explores this intricate relationship, shedding light on what happens when right-leaning parties in Europe and elsewhere go beyond influencing the domestic political sphere to challenging international order. Liberal democratic societies are more resilient in the face of populist challenges than conventional wisdom holds.
