Applied North American Studies (90cp)
Applicants from Germany
Applicants who have received their "Higher Education Entrance Qualification" (e.g. Abitur, European Baccalaureate) from Germany can apply directly to the university. (Please note: This might also include a diploma received in a country other than Germany if the school awards diplomas recognized as German. More info here.)

Applicants from Outside of Germany
Applicants who have received their "Higher Education Entrance Qualification" outside of Germany need to apply via uni-assist. All information necessary for the application procedure can be found on the application website of Freie Universität Berlin. If you want to know whether your diploma qualifies you to study in Germany, you can use this tool by uni-assist.
Any qualifications, certifications or transcripts that are in a language other than German or English will need to be submitted alongside a certified translation. Make sure you leave yourself enough time before the deadline to get certified copies and translations of the required documents!
English Language Proficiency
In order to study in the B.A. program "Applied North American Studies", applicants have to provide proof of English language proficiency at level B2 by passing an English test at the Language Center of Freie Universität. A description of this test can be found here.
Certain documents can be used to waive the language test. A list of acceptable language ceritifcates can be found here. English language certificates must not be older than 3 years. Important: You must submit a copy of the respective certificate to the attention of befreiungenglisch@sprachenzentrum.fu-berlin.de during the application process! Language certificates sent with your application materials are not accepted.
Tuition Fees
There are no tuition fees at Freie Universität Berlin. Students pay a semester fee of currently 312.89 €. Please find more information here.
