Audre Lorde's work in Berlin is receiving increasing attention in the city, including renaming a street in Kreuzberg in honor of her contributions to the community. These contributions continue today in the work of artists, educators, organizers, and other culture workers, who draw upon insights from Lorde and Black Feminism to guide their practices. Heidi R. Lewis' upcoming book "In Audre's Footsteps," (http://www.fair-bestellwerk.com/In-Audres-Footsteps-Transnational-Kitchen-Table-Talk) explores how these culture workers continue the legacy of Lorde's work in their own practices, addressing not only political issues, but the interpersonal conflicts that arise when we try to work together in order to guide ongoing efforts against oppression.

Working at the Intersections aims to highlight these conversations through a series of two dialogs taking place on Nov. 15th and 16th at the John F. Kennedy Institute, which hosted Lorde during her time in Berlin. The first dialog will bring together scholars, organizers, and activists to discuss the interaction between culture work and community formation inside and outside of the academy. The second, student oriented event will discuss issues in pedagogy and institutional life in higher education across national contexts. Both dialogs aim to move beyond discussion to developing practices of solidarity, resistance, and living through the difficulties of transformative work.
