Madita Oeming in Conversation with US Author Saskia Vogel
Sex is everywhere; and yet, it weirdly remains a social taboo. All the more so, when it is non-heterosexual, non-monogamous, casual, kinky, filmed, or paid for. US author and literary translator Saskia Vogel is dedicating much of her work to understanding this contradictory cultural place of sex. In her debut novel Permission (2019), which was praised by The Guardian as "a feminist spin on BDSM literature," she created characters navigating their sexual desires. Her upcoming project will be a collection of essays loosely themed around the spaces we give to and the stories we tell about porn.
Together with porn scholar Madita Oeming, who is currently teaching a „Porn in the USA“ class at the JFKI, Saskia Vogel will discuss sex, porn, and the challenges of writing about both in and outside of fiction.
