GSNAS alumnus Dr. Lee Flamand has recently published American Mass Incarceration and Post-Network Quality Television: Captivating Aspirations, an "unapologetically interdisciplinary work" examining American television's role in both critiquing and legitimizing the institutional reproduction of the prison. Based on the dissertation he completed at the GSNAS, the monograph interrogates programs such as Oz, The Wire, Orange is the New Black, 13th, and Queen Sugar as they aspire to integrate political critique into a quickly evolving but persistently commercial medium.
Congratulations, Lee!
