On February 10 at 1 p.m., Andréa Greene, MPH, will be giving a talk on “Pregnancy Outcome Disparity Between Black and White Americans”

Andréa Greene is an Epidemiologist/Data Monitor for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Outbreak Management Branch.  She has a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Michigan State University and a Masters in Public Health Epidemiology from Loyola University Chicago. Andréa spent two and a half years working in maternal child health as a Care Manager at Lawndale Christian Health Center in the city of Chicago. She worked to help promote better birth outcomes by providing supportive services through various resources and education. Andréa co-facilitated Centering Pregnancy groups (group prenatal care) alongside obstetricians and midwives and served as additional support, visiting at-risk expectant mothers in their homes to assess their needs on a more personal level. Andréa’s Graduate Capstone project focused on the pregnancy outcome disparity between Black and White Americans and revealed dark truths of the American prenatal healthcare system for Black women. In 2019 Andréa launched her blog, www.ownyourpregnancy.com, in an effort to impact the lives and experiences of pregnant women and their babies through the dissemination of information and experiences. She currently resides in Southern California with her wonderful husband and amazing baby boy who was brought into this world through water birth in the care of midwives. Andréa is excited to share her birth story and looks forward to sharing what she learned in her research and experience.
